442,833. Boring tapered holes. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., Aldwych House, Aldwych, London, and EDWARDS, R. W.. 18, Littleover Lane, Derby. Sept. 20, 1935, No. 26098. [Class 83 (iii)] Boring-heads.-A machine for boring tapered holes comprises a rotatably driven hollow shaft 3 with the axis of the bore extending obliquely from one end face to the other, and a tool-holding spindle 8 passing through the shaft in slidable and non- rotatable relationship thereto, means being provided for varying the relative longitudinal relation of the spindle and shaft. The spindle 3 mounted in the bearings 2 and driven by worm gearing from the belt pulley 4 is bored obliquely, as shown by the dot-dash line, to carry a tool-holding shaft 8 which is slidably keyed to the spindle 3. The shaft 8 carries at one end the tool-holder 9 and at the other end is connected through a thrust bearing (not shown), to universal joints 12, 13 and a rack-and-pinion feed device which may be hand or automatically operated. The toolholder 9 carries roughing and finishing tools 10, 10<a> respectively, and is rotatably adjustable about the end of the shaft 8 to provide for cutting different tapers, holes around the periphery of the spindle enabling a pin to be passed through the holder and the spindle to lock the former in its adjusted position.
