442,305. Fastening railway vehicle doors. PARKER, T. G. K., 86, Leigh Road, Leigh-on-Sea. Oct. 2, 1934, No. 28205. [Class 44] For automatically locking and unlocking a railway-carriage door a bolt 1 is released and retracted respectively by the alternate-energization of two electromagnets 12, 6 controlled by a speedometer 9 having two contact making positions 13, 8 corresponding to the speeds at which it is desired to lock and unlock the door. In addition a switch 16 enables the guard or driver to lock or unlock the doors of a train irrespective of the speed, and the guard may lock or unlock individual doors by means of a key which directly moves the armatures of the electromagnets. Key-operated cams also may be provided to act on the bell cranks to isolate individual locks so that they can only be opened by the guard. The electromagnet 6 acts on an armature 5<b> having an arm 5<a> coacting with a pin 4 on the bolt 1 to retract the bolt against a spring 2 until a notch 11 in the bolt engages a detent 10<a>. The detent 10<a> is tripped by an armature 10<b> acted upon by the electromagnet 12. A switch 14 breaks the circuit of the electromagnet 12 as soon as the bolt is shot.
