441,917. Converting. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. June 5, 1935, No. 16363. Convention date, June 7, 1934. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to an arrangement for the interchange of power between an A.C. network 1 and a D.C. network 2 and consists in interconnecting the networks by means of one or more discharge devices 3 having reversing switches to permit of rectifier or inverter operation and by means of one or more groups of discharge devices 7, 8 connected oppositely to permit of rectifier or inverter operation without the need of reversing switches. The group 7, 8 in cross connection is designed only to take a small percentage of the total load and is arranged to take all the load during transfer from rectifier to inverter operation and vice versa of the discharge devices 3. If desired relays in the D.C. leads of the group 7, 8 responsive to direction of current flow, may be used to effect operation of the reversing switches. Alternatively the relays may be inserted in the cross connections of the group 7, 8, in this case the relays need only be responsive to current flow. Where certain of the discharge devices are switched out when the load has fallen below a certain value (e.g. 50 per cent) the reversing switches of these devices may be changed over immediately, so that they will be ready for operation when change-over occurs.
