441,531. Dashpots. MAATSCHAPPIJ VAN BERKEL'S PATENT NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP, 33, Boezemsingel, Rotterdam, Holland, and BROUCKERE, L. DE, 139, Rue St. Denis, Brussels. June 20, 1935, No. 17695. [Class 108 (iii)] In a dashpot of the piston- and-cylinder type for damping the motion of moving parts in weighing apparatus the passage of fluid through one or more passages or byepassages 8 on movement of the piston 6 is controlled by adjusting means operated by mechanism isolated from the fluid by a flexible or partly flexible diaphragm which acts as a seal for the mechanism and allows transmission of the adjusting movement. As shown the diaphragm 11 itself effects the adjusting movement and is adapted to be moved manually by a screw 13 towards and away from an aperture or apertures 5 in a cylinder partition 4 or it may co-operate directly with the byepassage. The diaphragm, which may be made of thin sheet metal, spring steel, &c., or which may have a rigid central piston-like part and surrounding flexible portion, is secured, for example by soldering, to a ring 10 inside the cylinder 1 and is urged by its own resiliency against the head 12 of the screw 13.
