[Class 4] [See also Group X] Means for reducing the danger of stalling comprise the provision at the top front edge of an enclosed body or the outer portions of the wings, or of both of an upturned portion 2 flared out from the normal contour and preferably downwardly concave and which leaves a rearwardly facing gap 11 in communication with the interior of the aircraft and situated at the point where pressure of the boundary layer of air falls below a safe minimum to produce stalling. Back flow of air is prevented by a strip 5 and means may be provided for closing or partly closing at will the gaps 11 or air passages leading thereto. Flow of air past the gaps 11 induces ventilation in the wings and body and air inlets 10 may be provided on the pressure side of the body or wings. The gaps may extend over the whole length of the wings. Specifications 379,135 and 404,942, [both in Group X], are referred to.
