440,176. Steam turbines; motor power plant. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN, Gothenburg, Sweden. March 20, 1934, No. 8750. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 22, 1934]. [Class 110 (iii)] Relates to the controlling of a steam turbine driving auxiliary apparatus in a steam power plant. The turbine is provided with an inlet for exhaust or bled steam from the main engine, which may be a multiple cylinder engine, and with an inlet for live steam, and the valves in the inlets are interconnected and are controlled in accordance with the output of the turbine so that its performance is independent of the working conditions of the main engine. The Figures show a conduit 1 supplying a turbine 2 with exhaust or bled steam, and a conduit 11 supplying it with live steam, the supplies being taken to different nozzle groups. The turbine drives a feed-water pump 3 directly, and a cooling-water circulating pump 4, an oil pump 5 for general service, and a lighting generator 6 through gearing. The angularity of the blades of the pump 4 may be adjusted by a handwheel 30. In the embodiment shown the valve 14 in the conduit 1 and the valve 16 in the conduit 11 are operated by a common stem 15 which is actuated by a spring-pressed piston 20 the position of which depends upon the pressure in the delivery pipe 22 of the feed-water pump 3. The controlling device may be replaced by a centrifugal governor.
