Abstract
<PICT:0439816/IV/1> <PICT:0439816/IV/2> In a process for finishing viscose artificial silk wound on spools, the silk is deacidified or even completely after-treated on the spinning spool, and then while still wet is twisted and only then dried in the form of unsupported windings or cakes. Such unsupported windings or cakes may be obtained by collecting the threads in a centrifugal box or on a plate having both a rotary movement and an additional movement which is either a reciprocating one or has a reciprocating component, e.g. as described in Specification 434,881. The thread may be twisted both at delivery from the spool and while being collected, e.g. in the centrifugal box. When using stationary spools they may be immersed in a liquid to prepare them for further treatment (e.g. soap solutions, turkey red oil, or sizings such as linseed oil emulsions or starch solutions). In Fig. 1 the thread is drawn off from the stationary spool a immersed in a bath of preparatory liquid by a galette c and is spun in the spinning-box d. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the thread passes from the rapidly rotating spool over the galette c and through a bath of preparatory liquid h; b and i being guiding eyes. The twisted thread is collected on the plate f which is rotating at a peripheral speed approximately equal to the speed of delivery of the thread by the galette.
