Abstract

439,814. Centrifugal dust &c. separators. CHELTNAM, C. H. W., 188, Adelaide Road, Brockley, London. June 15, 1934, No. 17730. [Class 23] In a centrifugal separator of the kind comprising a separating chamber 1 of circular or scroll-shaped cross section into which the dust-laden air is forced tangentially, and from which the cleaner portion of the air passes tangentially through a port in a central pipe 3, while the remaining air containing the dust is shunted to a small cyclonic separator and precipitator, baffles 15 are arranged in the chamber to interrupt the formation of vortex rings in the air. The baffles may be in the form of one or more rings adjacent the end walls of the chamber, and the outlet port 5 in the pipe 3 may be controlled by adjustable shutters 6. Curved blades may be arranged in the pipe 3 to impart axial motion to the air. The dust passes through a port 7 into a chamber 8, from which it passes to a pipe 9 to a separator 10, 11. The clean air returns from the latter by a pipe 12 to the outlet end of the pipe 3 which is connected to a fan 4. Specifications 406,036 and 433,647 are referred to.
