Abstract
Mordant dyes are obtained by coupling the diazo compounds of o-aminophenol, o-aminonaphthols, o-aminobenzoic acid and their substitution products with the products obtained by treating 1 : 8 - naphthosultone - 4-sulphochloride with ammonia or aliphatic or aromatic amines, which may be substituted, e.g. by sulpho groups or halogen. The reaction products of the sultone-sulphochloride with ammonia &c. may be 1 : 8-naphthosultone-4-sulphonamides or 1-oxy-8-sulphonaphthalene-4-sulphonamides, but only the products of the latter type are capable of coupling with the diazo compounds; products of the sultone-sulphonamide type must first be hydrolyzed, e.g. by heating with dilute caustic soda in the coupling bath. The dyes obtained can be converted into metal compounds, chromium and copper compounds being specified; these compounds dye vegetable and animal fibres in bordeaux to violet and blue shades; they may be produced in substance or on the fibre. In the examples: (1) diazotized 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-8 - sulphonaphthalene - 4 - sulpho - a - naphthylamide; (2) diazotized 2 - aminophenol - 4-sulphonic acid is coupled with the same component as in example 1; (3) diazotized 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-8-sulphonaphthalene-4-sulphonanilide; (4) diazotized 2 - amino - 4 - chlorophenol - 6-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-8-sulphonaphthalene-4-sulphonanilide; (5) diazotized 2-amino-4-chlorophenol is coupled with 1-oxy-8 - sulphonaphthalene - 4 - sulphonamide; (6) diazotized 1-amino-5-sulpho-2-benzoic acid is coupled with 1 - oxy - 8 - sulphonaphthalene-4-sulphonanilide; (7) the dye from diazotized 4-chloro-2-aminophenol and 1-oxy-8-sulphonaphthalene-4-sulphonanilide is heated under pressure with aqueous chrome alum; (8) the product of example 3 is heated under pressure with aqueous chrome alum. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the diazo components may be derivatives of o-aminophenols or o-aminonaphthols, or o-aminocarboxylic acids generally or their derivatives. It states also that the coupling components may be substituted on the nitrogen atom of the sulphonamide group by an aralkyl group or groups. The following examples are included: (1) diazotized 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-8-sulphonaphthalene - 4 - sulphon - a - naphthylamide; (2) diazotized 2-amino-6-nitrophenol-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-8-sulphonapthalene-4-sulphonanilide; (3) the product of example 1 (this paragraph) is refluxed with chromium sulphate solution. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
