Abstract

439,165. Heels for boots and shoes. HEELITE PROPRIETARY, Ltd., 193, High Street, Prahran, Victoria, Australia. Feb. 27, 1934, No. 6334. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1933. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 8, 1934.] [Class 17 (ii)] Hollow moulded heels are attached by a substantially central threaded member or rivet which ties the heel to the shoe shank, a number of guide pins being formed integral with or attached to the heel around the seat to engage holes in the shoe shank to locate the heel in position. The heel may be of a phenolic resin compound or synthetic resin or glass, and is coloured to harmonize with the shoe upper. A metal plate may be provided in the shank of the shoe to receive the head of the central member and the guide pins, or such member may be formed integral with the plate. Alternatively, the insole may be thickened or a thick strip of soft material may be placed under the insole over the central member. As shown, the central member 35 which ties the heel 33 to the shank 28 of the shoe is located in position by guide pins 34 on the heel which register with and engage holes in the shank and insole. These holes may be reinforced by means of eyelets. The member 35 is screwed into a nut 49 in a recess 36 in a central pillar 35a in the heel, and this same nut is engaged by one of the screws 38 which attaches the heel lift. Other screws 32<a> may hold the lift against rotation. The lift may be stepped as shown at 30<a> to provide a greater thickness of material where the wear occurs. In other constructions, the central member screws at its lower end into a nut recessed into the heel near the lower end, or into the internally threaded end of a tubular member which extends upwards from a recess in the lower end of the heel. Alternatively, the member may be passed upwards into an internally screwed sleeve projecting from a metal plate in the heel end of the shoe, or it may be in bifurcated rivet form and turned over at its upper or its lower end. The heel tread may be secured by nails &c. to a plug inserted as by screwing in a cavity in the lower end of the heel. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also hollow heels of moulded material secured by a series of screws engaging nuts in recesses in the heel or in threaded apertures in the heel or a pillar therein, or alternatively a series of pins or bifurcated rivets may be moulded with the heel around the periphery of its upper face for securing the heel to the shoe. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
