Abstract
347,279. Boots &c. UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CORPORATION, 205, Lincoln Street, Boston, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Ayling, F. C.; Syracuse, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 27, 1930, No. 2701. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1929. [Class 17 (ii).] Shank stiffeners ; heels, attaching.-A combined shank stiffener and heel brace 1, Fig. 1, comprises a resilient metal arch support, preferably reinforced with a rib, and with an aperture 2 at its rear end, which extends over the heel seat. It is placed in position with the hole 2 in register with a hole a<1> formed in the insole a by a drill inserted through a hole b in a last B, and is held in this position by a plug of wood or similar material. The outer sole A<1> and heel C are next placed in operative position and a drill again inserted in the hole b to drill out the plug and form registering holes a<11> and 5 in the outersole and heel respectively. A bolt D with a collar d adapted to bear against the top of the last is inserted in this hole temporarily to secure the heel. On completion of the shoe, the bolt D and last B are withdrawn and a screw fitting closely into the aperture 2 in the shank is inserted to hold the heel and shoe in correct relative positions.
