Abstract
<PICT:0438841/III/1> Polishes for floors furniture, boots and shoes are prepared by dissolving barium soaps, with heating, in spirit of turpentine or trichlorethylene, or in a volatile mineral spirit such as white spirit or toluene, adding colouring matter, and allowing to cool. Stable colloidal jellies are thus obtained. The barium soap is obtained by the saponification of fatty matters, such as castor oil or a mixture of linseed oil and tallow, with barium hydrate solution, and paraffin wax or an animal or vegetable wax may be added to the soap, prior to its solution. Specified colouring matters are orange stearate, nigrosine stearate and carbon black. The soap and the polish may be prepared in a jacketed autoclave a provided with a stirrer c, c<1> and a discharge pipe c<5>, the jacket b having a discharge pipe b<2> and supply pipes b<1>, b<3> for steam and for cooling water respectively.
