438,837. Wrenches. RAPINET, H. P., 87, Tachbrook Street, Vauxhall Bridge Road, London. Jan. 29, 1935, No. 2941. [Class 61 (iii)] An adjustable wrench comprises a fixed jaw 1 on a shank 2, a slidable jaw 4 with a leg 5 channelled at its rear end 6 to engage flanges 7 on the shank and a bifurcated lever 8 pivoted to the leg 5 on a pin 9 and pivoted on an adjacent pivot 11 to a dog 10 located in a gap in the leg 5 and influenced by a spring 13 to engage rack teeth 3 on the shank 2 ; in the lifted position of the lever 8 the front end 17 of the dog coacts with the rounded end 14 of the gap 12 to tilt the dog out of engagement with the rack teeth and in the gripping position of the lever the rear end of the dog is engaged by the other rounded end 15 of the gap 12 to lock the dog in engagement with the rack, the gripping movement of the lever imparting a final closing movement to the jaw.
