Abstract

370,183. Holding and picking-up tools. SCHNEIDEB,F., 19, Robert Mews, Hampstead Road, London. April 1, 1931, No. 9861. [Class 61 (ii).] Coal &c. tongs comprise a hollow stem 1 with a cross piece 2 serving as a handle, and a socket 3 integral with transverse plates 4 between which is pivoted, on one side at 5, a claw 6 and on the other side at 7 a pair of claws 8 spread apart at their free ends. The claws 8 are slotted at 9 and through the slot passes a pivot 10 held in the fork end 11 of a spindle 12 passing through the stem 1, having a knob 15 at its upper end and a return spring 16 to normally keep the claws fully open. An abutment 13 on the spindle limits its upward movement and hence the opening of the claws, or alternatively their opening can be limited by their engaging the cross pieces between the plates 4 to which they are pivoted.
