Abstract
438,790. Sawing. YODER, C. M., 5500, Walworth Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. April 23, 1934, No. 12232. [Class 145 (ii)] [See also Group XXII] A metal strip A is partially severed by slot B into tube lengths, is bent to cylindrical shape and finally severed by a travelling saw 143. The saw is mounted on a shaft 144 in a tube 145 on collars 147 which swing about the motor shaft 149. The motor casing 148 is fixed to a slide 152 reciprocated in ways 153. When an arm on the collar 147 strikes a fixed cam during the reciprocation the saw is tilted against the urge of a spring to engage the work. The carriage is reciprocated by a crank mechanism from a power shaft connected by a one revolution clutch when a detent is released. The detent may be released by a light sensitive device, Fig. 68 (not shown), by mechanical means Fig. 66 (not shown), or by electromagnetic means, Fig. 62 (not shown), controlled by the partially severed material.
