Abstract
438,625. Scaffold clamps. JOHNSTON, W. A., 88, Ellington Road, Hounslow, Middlesex. Sept. 18, 1934, No. 26785. [Class 20 (ii)] A scaffold clamp comprises three clamping members, one of which is adapted partially to embrace one pole while the other members are each adapted partially to embrace both poles, the whole being secured together by two securing devices. The main member E, Figs. 3 and 4, partially embraces the upright pole D and has pivoted to it at G a subsidiary member K having an embracing surface R for the upright and a supporting surface P for the other pole C, these members being clamped together by a bolt M. The member E has also pivoted to it on an inclined axis G<1> a second subsidiary member Q which moves both axially and radially of the poles into and out of clamping position, a bolt V disposed in a direction at right-angles to the pivoting axis effecting clamping between this member and the main member. This clamping bolt may pass between the two subsidiary clamping members K, Q. In a modification, Fig. 5, the pivoting axis G<1> is aligned with the axis G and the member Q is adapted to slide and pivot on this axis for clamping and unclamping. Alternatively, the member Q may be pivoted to the member K at Z instead of to the member E.
