Abstract

517,107. Structural metal joints. MUIR, A. R. Sept. 3, 1938, No. 25834. [Class 20 (ii)] Structural members are joined together by opposed brokers which embrace the flanges of the members and are secured thereto by grub screws passing through the brackets, which are drawn together for clamping by a cross bolt, for connecting members end to end as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The brackets 1 are provided with channels to receive the flanges 2 of the abutting structural members, and grub screws 3 pass through the brackets and press upon these flanges. Opposed brackets are connected by cross bolts 1b passing through flanges la on the brackets. The brackets may be of angle formation for connecting members at right angles, Fig. 4, each angle having a channel groove to receive the flanges of the members 8, 9 and grub screws 7; clamping plates 40 embrace the flanges of the member 9 and are clamped to the angle members by cross bolts. In a modification for this purpose as shown in Fig. 7 angle shaped brackets 15 and cross bolts 16 only are used. Joints for four and six structural members meeting together are also shown and described. In a further modification, Fig. 23, the brackets are provided with lips 60 which engage over the flange of one member and channel recesses 61 receive the flanges of the abutting bar, cross bolts 63 being used to draw the brackets together. For joining members obliquely the bracket portions 34, 35, Fig. 15, are pivoted and are provided with a bolt and slot connection and opposed brackets are joined together by cross bolts.
