Abstract

735,365. Cramps. FREEDLAND, M. M., FREEDLAND, J., and FREEDLAND, A. March 30, 1954 [April 1, 1953 ; May 1, 1953], Nos. 8993/53 and 12048/53. Class 61. A clamp for glued joints comprises a channel section bar 1 having keyhole slots in the web 5 and an adjustable jaw 17 having two undercut studs 20 adapted to be engaged with two adjacent slots and thereby held in. position. The other jaw of the clamp comprises a swivel plate 15 on a screw-threaded spindle 13 which engages a hole in a bracket 7 welded to the bar 1. The flanges of the bar 1 are connected along the whole length or for a short distance near the ends by a channel section reinforcing member 25. The bar 1 is divided into two parts hinged together at 30. The studs 20 are riveted to the web of the jaw 17 and have necks 23 to accommodate the edges of the narrower part of the keyhole slots. In a modification, Fig. 4, an extension bar 38 which carries the adjustable jaw 33 is provided, the bar having a pair of studs 39 which may be engaged in any two adjacent keyhole slots 32 in the bar 31. Two keyhole slots 42 are provided in the bar 38 to allow attachment of the jaw 33. In another modification, the bar 38 is provided with a fixed jaw. The fixed jaw may have two clamping surfaces and in this case another pair of inwardly projecting studs are provided at the other end of the bar 38 to allow reversal of the bar relative to the bar 31.
