Abstract

438,476. Looms with automatic weftreplenishment. GLEDHILL, W., Wellhouse, Holmfirth, near Huddersfield. Aug. 21, 1934, No. 24048. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (iii)] On call for weft-replenishment, a support i3, Figs. 3 and 4, for the lowest bobbin or shuttle in the magazine f places the fresh shuttle on the lower parts of screws h that form the bottom of the shuttle box carried by the lay. The screws rotate and force the fresh weft supply or shuttle through the bottom of the shuttle box and raise the exhausted bobbin or shuttle above the top of the box. A hook r on the magazine allows the exhausted shuttle to be raked off. In some cases, the exhausted shuttle is allowed to pass through the end of the shuttle box by turning the picker about the picker spindle, Fig. 12, (not shown). Weft ends, manipulating. The weft ends from the shuttles or bobbins in the magazine f pass beneath a loose wire f Fig. 6, to a weft-end holder f<2>. The weft-ends from the holder to the fresh shuttle and from the selvage to the exhausted shuttle are cut by a temple thread cutter f <3>, the end from the exhausted shuttle being raised into the path of the cutter by a cord v passing over the breast beam and connected to a projection v<1> on the connecting-rod v<2>. The weft end extending from the ejected shuttle is caught and removed by a wire covered rotating roller that is detachable for cleaning purposes. The shuttle-box is provided with a slot through which the weft from the fresh shuttle to the weft-end holder passes as the shuttle is raised through the bottom of the box. Looms, driving; shuttle and weft stopmotions.-During weft-replenishment, a lever raises the " jammer " lever free of the stop w<3>, Fig. 3, that is connected by a rod y with the brake y<5>. At the same time, the shuttle swell is pressed back, while the rod y which has inclined slot-and-pin connections to the stop w<3> and the brake is raised to apply the brake and reduce the speed of the loom. The rod y is raised also to apply the brake y<5> when the weft stop-suction operates, a separate brake being dispensed with.
