FILLING-REPLENISHING Loom.
Lseaesi.
Specification-of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
Application filed Apri! 28, 1919. Serial lo..2.93,l35`
ment in Filling-Replenishing Looms, of
which the following description, in comico-- tion with the accompanying drawings, is a i specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention relates to filling replenishing looms and .'inore particularly to the means for withdrawing filling from the shuttle eye after a replenishing operation.
' In looms of this general type, itis common to rovide means for parting or cutting the filling between the cloth selvage and the Voutgoing filling carrier or bobhin on call for repliiishinent of filling, and ittheend of the l filling leading from the discharged filling carrier or bobbin is not withdrawn from the shuttle ,eyc, it is liable to be caughtlnd carried into the shed.
Numerous devices have been devised haying for their object the accomplishment of the above purpose and soine of them have electivcly performed the desired function. The present invention has for its ob]ect. to improve devices, for withdrawing the filling end from the shuttle eye following the replenishing operation and to provide means to eil'c'ctivcly accomplish this purpose, such means being simple in construction, effective in operation, and readily applicable to looms of this type now in general use.
Various features -of the' invention will best he inadevclear from the following descriptionand accompanying drawings of one good forni of mechanical means for carrying the invention 'into practical eiiect.
in the drawings: I
Figure l is a perspective view at the .replenishing side of a filling replenishing loom some of the parts being broken away for the purpose of clearness of illustration;
Fig'. 2 is a similar view with sonic of the parts omitted and showing the. loom elements and associated features in another position.
' in the drawings the loomfraine is shown as of the usual type having secured thereto the stand i carrying the-hopper 2 in which are contained the loaded iillingca-rriers 3.
'Pivotally mounted as'usual on the stand 1 is the transferrer 4f which serves tn eject the filling carrier or bobhin to be discharged,
and place in the shuttle another filling carrier or bobhin with a fresh supply of filling thereon. The transferrer nia-y be approl priately operated, as well understood by those skilled in the art, and further description thereof appears unnecessary.
The lay 5, the shuttle box 6, the pickerstick 7, and shuttle 8, are or 'may be of any desired and Wellknown: character of construction.
Many of the devices lheretofore provided for, withdrawing the filling end leading from the discharged lling carrier to the shuttle eye, have been of complicated chaiacte i requiring undesirable additions to or auxiliary movements associated with the other loom parts, lout in the present invention one of theimportant features consists 1n the simple means employed for effecting the withdrawal of the end ofthe filling froml the shuttle eye without adding materially to the loom parts or the .auxiliary operation of associated elements.
Secured to the loom frame in any ap r0- priate manner is the bohhiny chute 9, w ich may be of any suitable character for directing the filling carriers or bobbins as they are discharged from the shuttle intoA the receptacle or can 10. In the present nstance the bobbin chute 9 is formed of sheet metal or other suitable material and is 'connected to the loom frame by means of a bracket 1l to which the rear portion of the bobhin chute is connected, as indicated in Fig. l.
In the present instance of the invention, the hobbin 'chute 9 -is provided with a slot 19, leading from its outer edge portion iiiwardly towardv 'the loom frame and the -l upper wall 13 of the slot thus formed, is providedy `with :i series of roughened edge portions or teeth 14, the construction being such that should the filling between the disl charged filling carrier or bohhin 15 and the shuttle eye be enga-ged by the roughened edge or toothed portion .14, proj cting downwardly from the upper edge o the slot 12, it will be held hy these teeth as the shuttle is picked and thus cause the filling end to he drawn from the. shuttle eye if it has not already been drawn therefrom by th'i'primary operation of the device, as vwill presentl appear.
- ishment of filling, such outgoing filling carrier or bobbin may pass rearwardly of the thread catcher or linger 16. i f
The thread catcher or finger 16 is located relatively to the slot 12 in the bobbin chutev 9 so that 'on each beat up'movement of thelay the thread catcher '16 will pass through.
the slot 12 to a osition frontwardly ofi..
bobbin chute.- l hen replenishment of fil 1 ing is effected, the outgoing filling carrier is discharged from the shuttle when the lay 1s in snbstantiallyits frontward position, and' consequently the thread catcher 1.6 is in its position frontwardly of the bobbln chute 9,
-the relation of parts being such that the 'discharged filling carrier or bobbin 15, inpassingfrom the shuttle and over 'the bobbin chute 9, will pass over the slot 12 in the bobbin chute and between it and the threa catcher orfinger 16. 0
As the'lay retreats after; the filling rc-` plenishing operation, the filling a which has thus been laid between the thread catcher 16 and the slot 12 in the bobbin chute, as indicated in Fig. 1, will be ca ht by the finger or thread catcher 16 as t e la retreats and a bight'of the filling threa will be drawn rearwardly through the slot 12 of the bobbin chute, substantially as indicated in Fig. 2. The effect of this is to draw upon the filling vthread betweemthe discharged filling carrier or bobbin 15and the e e of the shuttle, with the result that the lling thread will be withdrawn from the e e of the shuttle by the increased length oft read caused by the thread catcher forming the 'bight of the filling, as indicated at b, Fig. 2. When the filling thread is thus drawn rearwardly through the slot 12 of the bobbin chute by the thread catcher or finger 16, the part thereof leading upwardly to the shuttle eye will be engaged by one of the teeth or roughened edge portions 14 at the lower edge of the upper wall 13 of the slot 12, so that should the end of the filling` not have been wholly withdrawn from the shuttle eye by the backward movement of the thread catcher or nger 16, as described, the teeth 14 on the lower edge of the upper Y wall 13 of the slot, will securely hold the filling as the shuttle is picked after the replenishing operation, thereby insuring the withdrawal of the filling thread from the shuttle eye and obviate all possibility of li ountedon the lay or movable the-'rewith of the filling being' carried into the an outwardly bowed or bent Qrcast finger,
preferably so curved at its end portion as to retain the bight of the filling b and prevent it slipping off the end of the 'finger as.
the lay goes back after'a"replenishing operation. he'device issimple, effective, and may. readily be applled tp-a'ny of the socalled 'automatic looms now in use, without' material ch`ange or additions thereto. Claims:A A' j -v 1. Ina filling replenishing loom, the
