Description

Dec. 22 1925.
A. J. 'CHEVRETTE WEFT CARRIER SUPPORT FOR WEFT REPLENISHI'NG LOOMS Filed Feb, 2.
Patented Dec. 2 2, 1925.
UNITED stares I mes e nvsar weer-Gimmes Samar FOB warr-namam nm LQQM$- Application filed February To alt whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUST-1N Crrnvnn'r'rn, a citizen of the United States, residingat W orcester, in the county of Worcester and State of lifassachusetta'have inventeda new and useful We-ft Carrier Support for 'Weft-Replenishing Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This inventionrelatesto a weft replenishloom of the type in which a non-rotaryor stationary magazine is usedf'ronrwhich a desired weft carrier or bobbin is supplied for transfer upon-indication of weft exhaustion in the active shuttle. In such magazines a selected weft carrier-is first advanced to transfer position, at'which point it must be yieldingly supported for engagement by the actuating device or transfer-rer by which it is inserted in. the active shuttle, simultaneously with the ejection of the-exhausted weft carrier therefrom. ii
It is the object of my invention to provide an improved support fora weft-carrier in transfer position, so engaging the weft ca rrier-that the yarn may be freely withdrawn frointhe tip end of the weft carrier during transfer and that the possibility of breakage during transfer will be greatly reduced.
In the preferred form, my improved support engages the weft carrier upon the rear side only and at a point substantially spaced from the tip of the weft carrier.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts whichwill be hereinafter described and more parties-- larly pointed out inthe appended claims.
A. preferred form of the invention isshown in the drawings, in which Fig. 1 a front view of parts-ofamagazine embodying my improvements;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation taken along the line 3-8 in Fig. 4,
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view taken along the line 4-4 in Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 is a similar view, showing a slight modification.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown parts of a stationary magazine comprising a stand or frame having a base 10 by which it is secured in fixed position on the loom and having an outer end frame ll secured in spaced relation to the stand 10 by a plurality of cross rods 12.
2. 1923-; Serial a 616,4 1;
The stand or frame 10 is provided with aplurality of vertically extending; ribs 13 (Fig-=3) forming a series of compartments let-for the bu-tts'ofthe weft carriers orbobbins 'CI- he tips of the ibOlOblIlS are sir-ni l-arly supported in guideways on the end frame 11 and vertically extendingpassages 15- therein permit the weft ends to be drawn outward from the weft carriersand to be secured to the end holder'16 (Figs. 1 and 4-).
'Clhe-we'ftcarriers W are held in their respective compartments by supporting devices or cradles, not shown, which are actuated upon indication of weft exhaustion to release and -advance a selected weft carrier to the position shown particularly in Figs. 3 and i of the drawings.
Inthis position, the buttofthe weft carrie-r is. engaged-on the front side by a fixed guide plate orprojection 17 and on the rear side by a yield-ing'ly mounted release device 1 8. The-tip of the bobbin is engaged on the front side by amembe-r 19 which is also adapted to yield asthe bobbin or weft carrier is moveddownw-ard. The tip ofthe bobbinisle-ft*free-andunsupported at the rear side thereof but the weft carrier is en gagedon its rear side at a point intermediate its endsv by a rodor arm 20 forming the lower end of a supporting device 21 pivoted zit-2,2 tothe end frame 11. This arm 20- also acts as a guide for the-weft carrier as the carrier is advancedtoward tr ansfer'position.
Thearm or rod 20' may be adjusted in the sleeve 24 at;the lower end ofthe member 21 both longitudinally of the weft carrier VJ and also angularly in the sleeve 24'. A set screw 26- in ;themember 21 also engages one of-the cross rods 12-and provides for adjust ment of the-arm 20-toward and from the weft carrier. The pointof engagement of the arm 20 with the weft carrier is preferably on the opposite side of the longitudinal center of gravity of the weft carrier from the butt in order that the weft carrier may not be unbalanced when supported by the arm 20 and the release device 18.
As soon as the weft carrier is transferred, its movement with the lay toward the rear commences, so that the Weft end is carried directly away from the support 19 on the front side of the tip. The rear side of the weft carrier tip is free fromengagement with any supporting device beyond the point 7 of contact of the support 20, and the weft may thus be freely drawn therefrom withoutv danger of breakage or entanglement.
The general positionofthe transferrer isf indioatedat 27 in Fig. 1, but the mechanism 7 for transferring the weft carrier and for indicating and advancing a selected weft car- 'rier to transfer position forms no part of my invention and for a full disclosure thereof, reference is made to the prior patent to E. H. Ryon, No. 1,080,748 issued June 25, 1912.
In Fig. 5, I have shown the weft end holder 16 positioned rearwardly of the tension on the weft end caused'by rearward movement of the lay and also presents the weft in better position for entering the shuttle eye.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed other- I wisethan as setforth in the claims but what I do c1aimis: 7 V V q 1. In a weft replenishing loom, a magazine, a transferrer, and means to support a weft carrier in transfer position in said magazine,'said means comprising a pairof members supporting the butt of the weft carrier, arnember supporting the tip of said weft carrier on its front side only, and a supporting member engagingvthe rear side of said Weft carrier at a point intermediate its ends.
