Abstract
790,858. Automatic bobbin-changing in looms. BRITISH COTTON INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Jan. 19, 1956 [Jan. 19, 1955], No: 1575/55. Class 142(2) The old and new weft trails 14, 15 are kept clear of the fabric, after being cut at the selvedge, by individual suction nozzles 23, 13. The nozzle 23 is mounted on the shuttle feeler 24 and its mouth is provided with a barb 23a over which the weft thread snaps, as the feeler moves rearwards, to prevent the thread from escaping as the feeler returns to the front of the loom. When the temple cutter 20 operates, the free end of the weft trail 14 is drawn into the nozzle, the other end being still held by the shuttle eye cutter and clamp 17 until the next replenishing operation when opening of the cutter allows the weft trail 14 to be drawn completely into the nozzle 23. The nozzle 13 is fixed with its mouth at the inner side of the notched disc 19. When the temple cutter operates, the new weft trail 15 is drawn into the nozzle 13, but remains attached to the hub 18; owing to the turning of the hub at each replenishment, the weft trails encounter a hook 21 by which they are gradually drawn out of the nozzle and become wound on the hub (which may be larger in diameter than usual to speed up this action). Instead of being on the shuttle feeler, the nozzle 23 may be fixed near to the shuttle eye cutter and clamp 17.
