Abstract
438,469. Casements; pivoted sliding windows. GIBBS, J., and GIBBS, Ltd., J., Grange Road Works, King's Heath, Birming- ham. June 29, 1934, No. 19181. [Class 20 (iii)] A window comprises one or more sashes 14 centrally pivoted at 15, 16 in upper and lower guide rails 17, 18, and hinged to each other and to end sashes 10 having half the width of the sashes 14. The upper guide rail comprises a channel-member 17, Fig. 2, carrying anglemembers 20, 22 with inwardly directed flanges 21 forming tracks for balls 28 mounted in a block 15 which pivots on a pin 24 screwed in a block 26 secured to the sash 14. Side guiding balls 29 also are mounted in the block 15. The lower guide rail comprises a channel-member 30 in which a block 16 secured to a block 34 screwed to the sash 14 runs on balls 37, side guiding balls 38 also being provided. The weight may be taken either by the top or by the bottom rail. A draught-excluding strip 50 is pivotally mounted along the lower edge of each sash. In a modification, the side guiding balls on the block 15 may be replaced by horizontally disposed rollers each of which has a diameter approximately equal to the internal width of the channel 17 ; and the balls 37 in the lower block may be replaced by vertical rollers. Horizontal side guiding rollers may also be provided in the lower block.
