Abstract
438,165. Shock-absorbing arrangements. ELEKTRONMETALL GES., Bad-Canstatt, Stuttgart, Germany. Dec. 15, 1934, No. 36068. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1933. [Class 108 (iii)] [See also Group XXXIII] A shock - absorbing arrangement for float or wheel undercarriages of aircraft comprises a number of torsion elements which are brought into operation successively. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 7, 8, the shock is applied by a lever to an arm 14 connected to an innermost tube 17 rigidly held at one end. After a predetermined movement of the arm 14 a lever 15 places a second tube 18 in torsion and, in the case of a very severe shock, a lever 16 is engaged and places the outermost tube 19 in torsion. The arm 21 through which the shock is transmitted to the torsion tube arrangement shown in Fig. 10 as applied to a single torsion tube, carries a plate 22 pressed by a spring 23 against a fixed member 24. The torsion bars or tubes may be provided with a bearing support intermediate their ends.
