Abstract

438,157. Tipping-apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and ROBSON, R., Fraser & Chalmers Engineering Works, Erith, Kent. Aug. 30, 1934, No. 25010. [Class 78 (iv)] The wagon is run on to a platform resting on fixed supports. Underneath the platform a beam 4 carrying gripping-devices for the coupling chains 20 is guided by depending lugs on the platform while being raised and lowered by cam connections with the rotary frame members 6. The latter are rotated by cords fixed to their peripheries and running over guide pulleys 17 to winding-drums 16 operated by a motor 15. The initial rotation of the members 6 gradually tilts the wagon into contact with the rotatable bolster 14 and at the same time raises the beam 4 so that the chains 20 enter the slots 10 of the chain grippers carried by it. When the beam contacts with the platform, the beam, platform and frame members 6 rotate as a unit, the wagon rotating on the bolster 14 during the process. During this rotation, the pivoted catches 11, Fig. 5, inside the gripping-boxes rotate by gravity into a position in which they lock the chains against withdrawal. On reversing the rotation to restore the wagon, the catches are withdrawn again by gravity, thus making the whole locking process automatic.
