[Class 146 (i)] In a visible card-index of the type in which the cards or the holders on which the cards are mounted are hingedly connected to transverse strips engaged beneath side flanges on a support panel, readily movable locking means is provided comprising a flap overlying the uppermost card or holder and hingedly mounted on a member slidably arranged in the panel, which engages the adjacent edge of the uppermost card or holder and may be locked in position. The cards b are mounted on holders b<2>, hinged to strips b<3> sliding under flanges c on a panel a. A metal flap e is fixed to a rod g, mounted freely in lugs g<1>, g<2> on a metal strip f. The strip f is held in position by a lug m, engaging a notch il in one flange c, and a sliding latch h, engaging a notch i in the other. The rod g passes through lugs h<2>, h<3> on the latch h, is bent over at g<3> to engage the lug h<3>, and is surrounded by springs l, l<1> lying between the lug g<1> and a shoulder e<1> on the flap e and between lugs g<2>, h<2> respectively. Through the engagement of the rod g and the lug h<3>, the latch h can be withdrawn by moving the flap e to the right, and the lug m be similarly released by then moving the flap to the left after tilting the strip f transversely. Several pairs of notches i, i<1> may be provided.
