Abstract

437,673. Automatic circuit-breakers and electromagnetic switches. SOC. FRANCAISE GARDY, 23, Rue de la Voie des Bancs, Argenteuil, and CLUSEL, M., 1, Allee Victor Hugo, Le Raincy, both in Seine-et- Oise, France. May 4, 1934, No. 13566. Convention date, May 4, 1933. [Class 38 (v)] An overload circuit-breaker is actuated a predetermined time interval after the operation of an excess-current relay or electromagnet by means involving a synchronous motor of the oscillating-armature type adapted to operate through gearing involving a time lag. As shown the attraction of the armature 3 of an electromagnet 1 in the main circuit removes at contacts 4, 22 a short-circuit from a synchronous motor of the oscillating-armature type the oscillating armature 11 of which drives a shaft 40 through ratchet mechanism 27, 28 and gearing 25, 26. At the same time the attraction of the armature 3 causes an engagement between clutching- members 9, 30 so that an arm 8 is stepped round through a predetermined angular amount. This arm may effect a direct tripping action or may close contacts in the tripping circuit of the controlled circuit-breaker. In a modified arrangement the synchronous motor of the oscillating-armature type is permanently connected in circuit and is clutched into operation with the time-lag mechanism when an excess current occurs in the controlled circuit.
