Abstract

[Classes 69 (iii) and 135] Air pressure sprayers of the kind in which the air and liquid valves are actuated by an air pressure device independent of the atomizing air supply has the air valve opened before the liquid valve is opened, and the liquid valve closed before the air discharge is stopped. Fig. 1 shows a form in which the needle valve 4 that controls the liquid discharge and the spring closed valve 6 that regulates the atomizing air are both actuated by compressed air admitted through a passage 15 to a cylindrical cavity 14 in the casing of the apparatus. A spring-pressed piston 13 in the cavity 14 carries a piston rod 19, a screwed sleeve 22 on which bears against a lever 21 pivoted on a tappet rod 20 by which the valve 6 is actuated. The outer end of the lever 21 bears against an adjustable collar 23 on the needle valve 4. On admission of air to the cylinder 14 the piston moves inwards and the strength of the springs 25<a>, 9 is such that the outer end of the lever 21 remains stationary until the inward movement of the tappet rod 20 is stopped by the shoulder 20<a> after which the lever turns to open the needle valve 4. The opening of the liquid valve may be adjusted by varying the stroke of the piston 13 by adjusting the position of the collar 22, by varying the clearance of the rod 20 and the air valve 6, or by varying the position of the collar 23. In a modification, Fig. 2, the air valve 6 is opened by the outward movement of a piston 17<a> directly attached thereto. The piston rod 19<a> is adjustably connected to a link 25, the other end of which is connected to a pivoted lever 26 carrying a projection 27 which contacts with an adjustable collar 28 on the needle valve rod 4<a>. By varying the air supply to the piston 17<a>, e.g. by a valve 31, the liquid discharge may be controlled independently of the pressure of the main air supply.
