437,184. Water-tube steam boilers and water heaters. CLARKSON THIMBLE TUBE BOILER CO., Ltd., and FOUNTAIN, H. J., Australia House, Strand, London. March 20, 1934, No. 8780. [Class 123 (ii)] Steam generators or water heaters having an annular water chamber 1 with loops or close-ended tubes 4 radiating inwards into a central space 5 traversed by waste or combustion gases also include an auxiliary watertube steam generator or water heater 6 detachably mounted wholly within the central space bounded by the loops or thimbles and a pump 21 drawing water from the main generator and forcing it through the auxiliary generator back to the main boiler. In the form shown the auxiliary generator comprises an upper two-chambered header 7 and a lower header 10 connected by downtake tubes 9 and uptake tubes 9<a>, a steam and water outlet pipe 14 extending below the normal water level of the main boiler. Baffles 15 extend from the inner shell 3 and from stays 11 between the headers 7, 10. The auxiliary generator is supported from the bottom by pivoted struts 16 bolted to lugs on the lower header. Another construction of auxiliary generator comprises unpartitioned headers connected by tubes with the lower header in communication with the pump. In another embodiment the upper header which is suspended by ties from the gas outlet passage comprises a central inlet chamber and two outlet chambers. A further modification comprises a pair of sinuous tubes connected to a bottom header.
