April 17, 1934, No. 26168 /35. Divided out of 436,957. [Class 27] [See also Group XXXVI] Price - change mechanism.-The load-responsive device that alters the charge per unit of energy in a prepayment meter as soon as the load exceeds a predetermined value operates in response to the power or watts in the circuit with which the meter is associated. The magnetic system of the meter comprises two current magnets 6, 8, Fig. 1, and a common potential magnet 3, there being two air-gaps in each of which is arranged a rotatable conductive disc. One of these (not shown) is the usual meter disc, the other disc 36, Fig. 3, driving a gearwheel 38 against the torque of a spring 37. When the torque on the disc 36 overcomes that of the spring 37, levers 40, 41 are operated and disengage clutch members 46<a>, 46b. The pinion 51, meshing with the commodity side of the meter differential, is then driven from the meter-driven pinion 57 through gearing 48, 55 instead of through gearing 47, 45 and the clutch members 46<a>, 46b. A pawl and ratchet wheel permits overrunning of the wheel 55 when the clutch is engaged. In order to prevent excessive forces from acting on the rotor 36 at high loads, this rotor may be shaped so as to be cut only by a part of the driving flux.
