Abstract
307,833. Telefonaktiebolaget L. M. Ericsson. March 14, 1928, [Co?zvention date]. Regulation, automatic; equalizing load on generator. - In installations in which the load is regulated to a prescribed maximum bv periodically switching on and off a part of the installation under the control of an ammeter or wattmeter, part of the installation is divided into sections successively switched off or on under the master control on the occurrence of increasing overloads or reduced loads, the section last switched off being periodicaly switched on and off to effect the regulation. 'Two wheels 11, 13 of a differential gear may be driven respectively by the meter 10 and by clockwork moving at a speed corresponding to the desired load, the third wheel 12 actuating through a toothed wheel 16 and a pawl 17 a mercury interrupter 8. A water heater 3 and a heat-accumulating stove 4 are connected to three poles 5 - - 7 of the interrupter 8 and are successively switched off when a large overload of lamps 2 is switched on. During the regulation, the heater 3 or stove 4 is periodically switched on and off, the loading being respectively above and below the prescribed load with the heater or stove on and off. The interrupter is pivoted at 9 and its downward movement is limited by a stop 20. The pawl 17 is spring- controlled and its movement is restricted by a stop 19. The heaters may be further subdivided and may be controlled by two or more mercurv interrupters moving about a common axis. Sections of a water heater may be successivelv switched on, or sections of a heater in series may be successively short-circuited.
