Abstract

542,321. Electricity supply; transmitting mechanical power. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CARNEGIE, H. S. June 1, 1940, Nos. 9632/40 and 5498/41. [Class 38 (iv)] Equalizing load.-An Ilgner set or other apparatus driving machinery requiring a highly fluctuating driving torque but incorporating or directly coupled to a flywheel 4 has a driving member 1 of any kind coupled to the generator 3 or to the machinery by a slip coupling 5 wherein a field system 5a reacts with a relatively moving secondary system 5b to induce current therein. Means 8 responsive to the load on the coupling may vary the primary excitation or the resistance 6 in the secondary circuit to increase the slip with the torque as transmitted for example as a substantially continuous coupling 5 and the function of the load or in one or more abrupt steps.
