551,414. Electromagnetic couplings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CARNEGIE, H. S., and AYRES, W. E. M. Oct. 3. 1941, No. 12812. Drawings to Specification. [Class 35] An electrodynamic coupling whereby torque is transmitted by the interaction of a primary field system with a secondary system in which current is induced by movement relative to the field system, both systems being movable and one connected with the power input and the other with the power output, has a solid cylindrical secondary member of magnetic material with conducting rings at its ends. Instead of the rings, the cylinder may be thickened at its ends and formed with curved longitudinal slots which do not extend to the ends ; the slots may be filled by conducting bars. This secondary member is described, as the rotor of an induction motor, in Specifications 234,191, 266,780, [both in Class 35], and 528,293.
