Abstract
206,756. Chamberlain & Hookham, Ltd., and James, S. Jan. 19, 1923. Power factors, measuring.-In order to indicate the average power factor of a three-phase system provided with two single-phase energy meters, an index is operated by the joint action of the meters the index-actuating mechanism being periodically reset by means controlled by that meter which runs the faster on a balanced inductive load. A pair of sun pinions c, c , Fig. 1, driven by worms a, a<1>, on the two energy meters, are loosely mounted on a spindle b to which is attached a carrier d for a planet pinion e engaging the sun pinions c, c. On the spindle b is fastened a worm f driving a wheel h, Fig. 2, which is controlled by a spring i and operates a non-return pointer g through a pin j. The wheel h is mounted on a lever l which is rocked by an electromagnet m when the circuit of this is closed by the engagement of a contact p, Fig. 1, driven by the meter worm a, with fixed contacts q. The wheel h is thus disengaged from the worm f and is returned to zero by the spring i. Alternatively the mechanism described in Specification 104,924 may be employed for the periodic resetting of the index-actuating mechanism.
