Abstract

Acid wool dyes, dyeing with.--Animal fibres are dyed with complex metal compounds of mordant-dyeing azo dyestuffs containing sulpho groups with the addition to the dyebath of a small proportion, not exceeding 0,5 per cent by weight of the goods to be dyed, of a soluble salt of an organic nitrogenous water-insoluble base or of an organic quaternary ammonium compound, which base or compound contains at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic residue comprising at least 8 carbon atoms but contains no polyethenoxy group and is other than a quaternary ammonium compound obtainable by treating with an alkylating or aralkylating agent an N-alkyl-or N-aralkyl-benzimidazole substituted at the m carbon atom by an aliphatic residue containing at least 8 carbon atoms. Specified soluble salts are the trimethylammoniumsulphomethylate of monostearoyl- or monooleyl-p-phenylenediamine, diethylcetylamine hydrochloride, dimethyloctodecylamine hydrochloride, octodecyltrimethylammonium sulphomethylate, the hydrochloride of pentadecyldihydroimidazole, the mixed ether from cetyl alcohol and N-oxymethyl pyridium chloride, the ester from stearic acid and dimethyl- or diethyl-aminoethanol, stearylcholine hydrochloride or the corresponding benzyl compound, the palmitic acid ester of 1-oxyphenyl-3-trimethylammonium chloride, the stearic acid ester of oxyethylpyridinium chloride, the hydrochloride of diethylaminoethyloctodecyl carbonate, and the stearic acid ester of the addition product from glycerolmonochlorhydrin or a : a <1>-glyceroldichlorhydrin and pyridine; the stearic and palmitic acid residues may be replaced by the residues of oleic, capric, lauric, myristic or ricinoleic acids and the cetyl alcoholic residue may be replaced by the residues of the alcohols corresponding to such acids; salts derived from more complex amines, such as diethylenetriamine and triethylenetetramine may also be used. The following examples are specified: (1) Wool (100 parts) is entered into an aqueous solution at 60--70 DEG C., containing sulphuric acid, the chromium compound of the dyestuff, 4-chloro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid --> 2 : 4-dioxyquinoline, and the condensation product (0.1--0.2 part) from stearic acid chloride and unsymmetrical N-diethylethylenediamine, the bath is heated to boiling during \ba1/2\be hour and so maintained for 1--1\ba1/4\be hours and the goods are rinsed and dried. (2) Wool (100 parts) is entered into an aqueous solution at 90 DEG C., containing sulphuric acid, the chromium compound of the dyestuff, 4-methyl-2-aminophenol-5-sulphonic acid --> b -naphthol, and the condensation product (0.15 part) from oleic acid chloride and unsymmetrical N-diethylethylenediamine, the bath is heated to boiling during \ba1/4\be hour and so maintained for 1--1\ba1/4\be hours and the goods are rinsed and dried. Specification, 294,890, [Class 15 (ii)], 364,104, and 372,325 are referred to.
