Abstract

Acid wool dyes, dyeing with.--Animal fibres are dyed with chromium compounds of mordantdyeing sulphonated azo dyestuffs with an addition to the dyebath of less than 1 per cent (on the weight of the goods) of a quaternary ammonium compound obtainable by treating with an alkylating or aralkylating agent an N-alkyl- or N-aralkyl-benzimidazole substituted at the m carbon atom by an aliphatic residue containing at least 8 carbon atoms (cf. Specification 419,010). In an example, 100 parts of wool are dyed in an aqueous bath containing Neolan violet 5R, sulphuric acid and 0,02 part of m -heptadecyl-N : N-dibenzyl-benzimidazolium chloride, the wool being introduced at 60 DEG C. and the temperature then raised to the boil in 20 minutes and so maintained for 45 minutes. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of dyeings prepared (1) by introducing 100 parts of wool into an aqueous bath at 60--70 DEG C. containing the chromium compound of the dyestuff, 1 : 2-aminonaphthol-4-sulphonic acid --> 1 - phenyl - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone, sulphuric acid and 0,1 part of m -heptadecyl-N-benzyl - N - methyl - benzimidazolium chloride, raising the temperature to the boil in 30 minutes and so maintaining for 60--75 minutes; (2) by similarly employing as dyestuff the chromium compound of 4-methyl-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid --> b -naphthol and as assistant m - undecyl - N : N - dibenzyl - benzimidazolium chloride; (3) by introducing 100 parts of wool into an aqueous bath at 60 DEG C. containing the chromium compound of the dyestuff, 6 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol - 4 - sulphonic acid --> b -naphthol (cf. Specification 257,820, [Class 2 (iii)]), sulphuric acid and 0,1 part of m -heptadecyl-N-methyl-N-ethyl-benzimidazolium chloride, raising the temperature to the boil in 15 minutes and so maintaining for 60--75 minutes; (4) by similarly employing as dyestuff the chromium compound of the dyestuff from the nitrated diazo compound of 1 : 2-aminonaphthol-4-sulphonic acid and b -naphthol (cf. Specification 364,147), with the same assistant. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 is not restricted to the use of the chromium compounds but includes also the use of any complex metal compounds of the dyestuffs. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
