Abstract

Mordant dyes, dyeing with.--Wool is dyed, in shades which are fast to washing, fulling and light, according to the single bath process with the use of chromium compounds and of monoazo dyes of the type, aromatic amine, free from carboxyl, nitro or halogen groups and having no hydroxyl in o-position to the amino group, -->an 8-hydroxyquinoline, one or other of the components containing a single sulphonic group. The wool is introduced into a bath at room temperature or at 50--60 DEG C. containing the dyestuff, Glauber's salt and either ammonium chromate or a mixture of sodium chromate and ammonium sulphate and the bath is slowly heated to boiling and kept boiling for 1--2 hours. A table is given showing the shades obtainable with the following dyestuffs, viz. 1 - aminobenzene - 2, 3 or 4 - sulphonic acid, 1 - methyl - 4 - aminobenzene - 2 or 3 - sulphonic acid, 1 - methoxy - 2 - aminobenzene - 4 - sulphonic acid, 3 - amino - 4 - cresolmethylether - 6 - sulphonic acid or 1 - aminonaphthalene - 4 - sulphonic acid --> 8 - hydroxyquinoline; 1 - aminobenzene - 3 or 4 - sulphonic acid --> 5 - methyl - 8 - hydroxyquinoline; 1 - aminobenzene - 3 - sulphonic acid --> 5 - chloro - 8 - hydroxyquinoline; aniline, 1 - methyl-3- or 4-aminobenzene, 1-methoxy-2 or 4-aminobenzene, 1 - ethoxy - 4 - aminobenzene or 4 - amino - 1 : 3 - dimethylbenzene --> 8 - hydroxyquinoline - 5 - sulphonic acid. Specification 166,033, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to. 3 - Amino - 4 - cresolmethylether - 6 - sulphonic acid is obtained by sulphonating 3-amino-4-cresolmethylether.
