Abstract
The fastness to water of dyeings on vegetable fibres and fibres from regenerated cellulose with dyestuffs containing carboxylic and/or sulphonic acid groups is improved by treating the dyeings with an aliphatic or araliphatic amine or organic ammonium compound of the aliphatic or araliphatic series containing more than seven carbon atoms or a salt thereof. Salts of the dyestuffs are thus formed on the fibre. The amines used may contain substituents, e.g. carboxyl, sulphonic or sulphonic ester groups, halogens or hydroxyl. Specified compounds are (1) amino substituted higher fatty acids or acid amides (cf. Specifications 339,675, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and 355,139), (2) the bases prepared according to Specification 339,962, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], sulphonated according to Specification 383,736, (3) the condensation products from paraffin bases (cf. Specification 339,962) and halogen fatty acids, (4) the condensation products from higher aliphatic amines and halogen alkyl or aralkyl sulphonic acids (cf. Specification 356,218) or from higher aliphatic amines and aralkyl halogenides and sulphonation, (5) the products obtained according to Specification 356,218 by alkylation of the products of Specification 356,218. In examples (1) cotton threads dyed with Direct Deep Black EW extra are after-treated with an aqueous solution of peralkylated heptadecylamine (obtained from stearic acid by the Curtius reaction and treating the product with dimethylsulphate), (2) cotton tissue dyed with Diamine Green B is treated with diethylaminoethyleneheptadecylamine (from heptadecylamine and diethylaminoethylchloride), (3) cotton threads dyed with Congo Orange R are after-treated with hydroxyethyldodecylamine (from lauric acid by hydrogenation, replacing the OH group by NH2 and treating with glycolchlorhydrin) (4) cotton threads dyed with Benzo Fast Red 6BL are treated with the formate of the product from hexachlorostearic acid and alcoholic ammonia, (5) cotton tissue dyed with Benzo Fast Red 8BL in an aqueous formic acid bath containing the sodium salt of the product obtained by treating hexachloro hard paraffin with alcoholic ammonia and sulphonating, (6) cotton tissue dyed with Benzo Fast Blue FR is after-treated with the product from monochlor acetic acid and octadecylamine or the base from tetrachloro hard paraffin and ammonia; the products from the bases of Specification 339,962 and b -chloropropionic acid give a similar result, (7) cotton threads dyed with Benzo Fast Blue FR are treated with the hydrochloride of the product obtained by heating the base from trichloro hard paraffin and ammonia with chloroethanesulphonic acid; the sodium salt in the presence of acid may also be used, (8) cotton dyed with Benzo Fast Red 8BL is treated in an acid bath containing the condensation product from polyethylene diamine and chlorethanesulphonic acid sodium salt, (9) cotton threads dyed with Diamine Green B are treated with the product obtained by condensing chlorethanesulphonic acid with the base from polyethylene diamine and trichloro hard paraffin, (10) cotton threads are dyed with Congo orange R and after-treated with the compound obtained by acting wit benzylchloride sulphonic acid on the base from hexachloro hard paraffin and ammonia, (11) cotton tissue is dyed with Benzopurpurine 4B and after-treated with the condensation product from a mixture of isomeric aminobenzyltoluidines or anhydro-p-aminobenzyl alcohol and b -chlorethanesulphonic acid. The latter compounds form insoluble lakes with substantive cotton dyestuffs.
