Process for producing genuine wool dyeings with copper or nickel phthalocyanines The invention relates to a process for dyeing wool with sulfated copper or nickel phthalocyanines in uniform, strong, genuine turquoise blue tones.
Certain sulfonated or sulfated copper phthalocyanines have become important for dyeing cellulose in pure, lightfast turquoise tones. Sulfonated phthalocyanines have also been proposed for dyeing wool. If you use them in the form of their water-soluble alkali salts without further auxiliaries for dyeing in acidic liquors z. B. in the presence of Glauber's salt, you get very weak, very restless and therefore completely unusable colorations.
A substantial improvement in the quality of such dyeings is achieved if the dyeing is carried out in the presence of polyglycol ethers which are derived from fatty alcohols with 12 to 18 carbon atoms and have at least 20 ethyleneoxy groups in the polyglycol ether residue. However, even the colorations produced in this way do not yet meet all requirements with regard to uniformity and color strength.
From the French patent specification No. 1229 389 the dyeing of wool with copper and nickel phthalocyanines, which sulfated sulfonic acid fl-

contain hydroxyalkylamide groups, known using conventional dyeing auxiliaries.
Furthermore, from the French patent specification no. 1 242 900 a process for dyeing wool with sulfonated copper phthalocyanines using quaternary nitrogen compounds which contain at least one polyalkyl ether radical and, in total,

Dyeing auxiliaries known.
In the previously mentioned processes, however, the dye precipitates on the fiber, and the dyeings that are produced therefore do not meet all the requirements with regard to rub fastness and wet fastness.
It has now been found that the disadvantages mentioned are avoided and that very uniform, genuine and extensive dyeings can be produced on wool if the wool is in aqueous solutions of the salts of copper or nickel phthalocyanines, the sulfated sulfonic acid or - contain y-hydroxyalkylamide groups in the presence of quaternary surface-active nitrogen compounds of the formulas:
where R is a higher alkyl or alkenyl radical, R 'is a lower alkyl radical or an aralkyl radical, and An is an anion of a strong acid and the sum of a1 and a, or a3, and a4 is 0 to 2 and the sum of X1 and X , or X3 and X4 is 7 to 30, heated.
The copper and nickel phthalocyanines which can be used according to the invention are derived from the customary mixtures of different degrees of sulfonation and preferably contain 2 to 3 or even 4 sulfated sulfonic acid or γ-hydroxyalkylamide groups, preferably only sulfuric acid monoester groups, but can also individual sulfonic acid groups,
Contain individual halogens and individual sulfonic acid amide groups, these sulfonic acid amide groups being unsubstituted or substituted on the nitrogen, for example by lower alkyl groups, such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl groups, or lower hydroxyalkyl groups, such as 2-hydroxyethyl, 2 -Hydroxypropyl-,
3-hydroxypropyl groups. All of these dyes are used in the form of their water-soluble salts, especially as alkali metal or ammonium salts. The dyebaths that can be used according to the invention can also contain conventional auxiliaries in wool dyeing, for example salts such as sodium sulfate, ammonium sulfate, ammonium acetate, acidic alkali metal or ammonium phosphates, esters such as methyl or ethyl lactate or tartrate, or acids,
such as formic acid, acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid. The dyeings are expediently produced in, if appropriate, buffered, weakly acidic baths or in dye liquors which contain ammonium salts of low-volatility acids, for example ammonium sulfate,
in contents of 3-6% of the dyed material depending on the amount and composition of the dye used.
The quaternary, surface-active nitrogen compounds are based, for example, on amines with 8 to 20 carbon atoms, with 7 to 30 moles, preferably 15-30, of ethylene oxide and with one mole of styrene oxide and optionally with 1 to 2 moles of propylene oxide to 1 mole of amine and with one mole Ester of a lower alkanol with a strong acid as an alkylation or
Aralkylating agents, for example with dimethyl sulfate, diethyl sulfate, ethyl chloride or bromide, p-toluenesulfonic acid, methyl or ethyl ester, benzyl chloride, chlorobenzyl chloride, dichlorobenzyl chloride, chloro- or bromoacetic acid or propionic acid methyl or ethyl ester ,
have been implemented. Suitable amines are: octylamine, decylamine, dodecylamine, tetradecylamine and mixtures thereof, hexadecylamine, octadecylamine, oleylamine and mixtures thereof, dodecylbenzylamine, nonylphenoxypropylamine, dodecylphenoxypropylamine, etc., with oleylamine being preferred.
If very long-chain amines or alkylarylamines are used as higher amines, then a longer polyglycol ether chain with, for example, 15 to 30 -CH. "CHF O groups is favorable, but if shorter-chain higher amines and methylating agents are used, then a shorter polyglycol ether chain with for example 7 to 12 -CH.-CH, -O- groups are advantageous.
The quaternary, surface-active nitrogen compounds are expediently used in amounts of approximately 0.5 g per liter of dye liquor. However, the range of action extends, in part depending on the amount and type of dye used and on the composition of the auxiliary, to levels of about 0.1 to 2 g per liter of dye liquor.
The quaternary, surface-active nitrogen compounds have a color deepening, leveling and rubbing fastness improvement at the same time. The after-treatment of the wool dyeings, known per se, with agents which increase the pH value, such as sodium bicarbonate, ammonia, hexamethylenetetramine, at 80-100 ° C., improves the wet fastness properties of wool dyeings according to the invention even further.
Wool dyeings produced according to the invention are characterized by a full color shade, great uniformity, excellent wet fastness and perfect rub fastness. In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 0.5 parts of the sodium salt of sulfated copper phthalocyaninesulfonic acid-γ-hydroxypropylamide of the schematic formula CuPc [SO "NHCH.2CH., CH2OS03Na] z__3 are added to 250 parts of soft water with the addition of 0.6 parts 40% strength acetic acid and 0.2 part of the quaternized nitrogen compound described below are dissolved in a hot solution, and 10 parts of worsted wool are added to this liquor at 40%.
The temperature is raised to the boil within 45 minutes and it is colored at the boil for one hour. 0.4 part of hexamethylenetetramine is then added and the mixture is kept at the boiling temperature for a further 30 minutes. Then the dyed worsted wool is rinsed first with warm, then with cold water. The pure, deep, calm, blue coloration obtained is very good wet, light and rubfast.
If, in this example, the corresponding nickel-containing dye is used instead of the copper-containing dye, a somewhat greener dyeing with similarly good fastness properties is obtained.
The dyes are prepared as follows: 100 parts of copper or nickel phthalocyanine are heated in 1200 parts of chlorosulfonic acid to 115 for half an hour and then to 120 for 3 hours. The mixture is then cooled to 80 and 160 parts of thionyl chloride are added dropwise with stirring. The mixture is stirred for a further hour at 80 and then cooled. The solution is then poured onto ice with stirring and the precipitated dye sulfonic acid chloride is filtered off with suction and washed with ice water until the wash water is no longer peeling Congo red paper.
The sulfonic acid chloride is mixed with water and the pH of the suspension is adjusted to 7 by adding sodium hydroxide solution. The dye sulfonic acid chloride is then reacted with 105 parts of 1,3-propanolamine, first cold and then at 80, the dye sulfonic acid hydroxy propylamide is isolated, dried and esterified with sulfuric acid monohydrate or with chlorosulfonic acid.
The quaternary nitrogen compound used in this example is prepared as follows: 100 parts of ol.eylamine are dissolved in 300 parts of chlorobenzene. 45 parts of styrene oxide are added dropwise to the solution with stirring. The mixture is then slowly heated to the boil and the solution is kept at the boiling point for a further 4 hours. Then the chlorobenzene is distilled off in a vacuum. The residue, the 2-oleylamino-1-phenylethanol, forms a pale yellow oil that gradually solidifies in the cold.
135 parts of this substance are mixed with 50 parts of ethanol, in which 1 part of sodium has been dissolved, and the ethanol is distilled off with thorough stirring. The residue is heated to 120 to 130 'and ethylene oxide is passed into the melt until the increase in weight is 230 parts. The reaction product obtained in this way solidifies on cooling to a light, waxy mass that is clearly soluble in water.
To 75 parts of the 2 - oleylamino -1 phenylethanol polyglycol ether obtained, 9 parts of dimethyl sulfate are added with cooling and stirring at 70 in about 10 minutes. The mixture is stirred for a further 30 minutes at this temperature, a homogeneous solution being formed. On cooling, the quaternary ammonium compound is obtained as a light, waxy mass, which is clearly soluble in water.
If, instead of the condensation product of oleylamine and styrene oxide, that of stearylamine with styrene oxide is used and the rest of the procedure is the same, a surface-active quaternary nitrogen compound is obtained which, with the dyes described in this example, gives similar, true and even colorations.
Example 2 0.5 parts of the sodium salt of sulfated copper phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid - - hydroxyethylamide of the schematic formula CuPc [SO, NH-CH.CH, OS03Na] 4 are added to 250 parts of soft water with the addition of 0.6 Parts of 40% acetic acid and 0.2 parts of a surface-active,
quaternary nitrogen compound of the type described below dissolved. At 40, 10 parts of worsted wool are added to this liquor. The temperature is raised to the boil within 45 minutes, and the color is boiling for one hour. 0.4 part of hexamethylene tetramine is then added and the mixture is kept boiling for a further 30 minutes. Then the ge dyed worsted wool is rinsed first with warm, then with cold water. The pure, full, even blue coloration obtained is very good wet, light and rubfast.
The dye is prepared as follows: 100 parts of copper phthalocyanine are heated to 142 in 1200 parts of chlorosulfonic acid for 4 hours. 160 parts of thionyl chloride are then added dropwise to the solution at 80 with stirring and stirring is continued at 80 for a further hour. The resulting solution is then poured onto ice, and the precipitated sulfonic acid chloride is filtered off with suction and washed with Congo-neutral water. The sulfonic acid chloride is then stirred up with ice water and the pH of the suspension is adjusted to 7 by adding sodium hydroxide solution.
Then 106 parts of monoethanolamine are added and the mixture is then stirred at 80 for some time to complete the reaction. The copper phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid ethanolamide is filtered off with suction, dried and sulfated by dissolving in sulfur monohydrate. The sodium salt of the sulfated dye is produced by pouring it onto ice, sifting, suctioning off and slurrying the precipitate and carefully neutralizing the suspension, which is precipitated with sodium chloride,
vacuums and dries.
The quaternary nitrogen compound used here is prepared as follows: 68 parts of dodecylamine are gradually mixed with 45 parts of styrene oxide at 70 with stirring. The mixture is then heated to 140, with an exothermic reaction occurring; the temperature rises to 175. The reaction mixture is then stirred for a further 4 hours at a temperature of approximately 140. 2 parts of sodium ethylate are added to the melt and ethylene oxide is introduced at 110 to 120 until the increase in weight is 329 parts (20 mol).
94 parts of the 2-dodecylamino-1-phenylethanol polyglycol ether produced by this method are ver at 70 in about 10 minutes while stirring with 10 parts of dimethyl sulfate while cooling. The mixture is then stirred for a further hour at this temperature. The quaternary nitrogen compound obtained as a waxy mass on cooling is clearly soluble in water.
If, instead of the condensation product of dodecylamine and styrene oxide, that of decylamine, dodecylbenzylamine, tetradecylamine is used and the rest of the procedure is the same, a surface-active quaternary nitrogen compound is obtained which gives real and uniform colors similar to the dye described in this example .
Example 3 0.8 parts of the sodium salt of the sulfated copper phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid oxethylamide of the schematic formula Cupc [SO2NHCH #, CH20S03Na] 4 (prepared as described in Example 2) are added to 250 parts of soft water with the addition of 0.6 Parts of 40 liter acetic acid and 0.2 parts of the surface-active, quaternary condensation product described below, dissolved. The dyeing is as in Example 1 and a full, pure, blue, light, wet and rub-fast wool dyeing is obtained.
The surface-active quaternary nitrogen compound used here is produced as follows: 133 parts of the 2-oleylamino-1-phenylethanol described in Example 1 are mixed with 20 parts of propylene oxide after adding 1 part of sodium ethylate and Stirred for 6 hours at 50-60.

SUBClaims 1. Process according to patent claim I, characterized in that copper phthalocyanine dyes are used which contain no further acid-dissociating and salt-forming groups in addition to 2 to 4 sulfated sulfonic acid-f-hydroxyalkylamide groups. The mixture is then slowly warmed to 70-80 until no more propylene oxide condenses in the reflux. This is followed by heating to 140 to 150 for a short time. The temperature is then allowed to drop and 302 parts of ethylene oxide are introduced into the mixture at 100-120.
The corresponding polyglycol ether is obtained as a light, wax-like mass.
52 parts of the condensation product thus obtained are mixed with 5 parts of dimethyl sulfate and stirred at 70-80 for half an hour. The waxy quaternized product is clearly soluble in water.
