Abstract

436,658. Feeding coal; grain, &c. ; weighing-apparatus. JORGENSEN, M. VOGEL-, 24, Bulowsvej, Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen. April 16, 1934, No. 11449. [Class 143] [See also Group II] An apparatus for continuously delivering coal, cement, grain, or other material comprises a conveyer suspended in a weighing apparatus, a device for feeding the material to the conveyer, and an electric motor driving the feeding device, in which the speed of the motor is regulated in dependence upon the weight of the material on the conveyer so as to obtain a substantially constant delivery of material. As shown, the material in a silo 9 is transferred by a band conveyer 11 to a second band conveyer 1 suspended from a weighbeam 6 and driven at a constant speed by an electric motor 4 also carried by the weighbeam. The feeding conveyer 11 is driven by an electric motor 14. The up and down movements of the weighing conveyer 1 caused by fluctuations in the load rock a contact drum 24 so as to close the circuits of one or more solenoids 28 thereby short-circuiting a corresponding number of resistances 22 in the field circuit of the motor 14. The field circuit is thus varied to regulate the speed of the motor and maintain the flow of material substantially constant. The armatures of both motors 4, 14 are fed from a common direct current generator 15 driven from a motor 16. The field magnets of the generator 15 and the motors 4, 14 are excited from a source of direct current 17. The voltage of the generator 15 may be regulated by a shuntregulator 20 so that the speeds of the motors 4, 14 may be altered simultaneously to alter the rate of delivery of the material. A revolution counter 33 indicates approximately the amount of material delivered. The apparatus may be modified by arranging the conveyer 1 so that a portion only bears on the weighbeam ; or instead of an endless band conveyer a bucket wheel may be employed. Where two or more different materials are to be fed in definite ratios and each at a substantially constant rate, two or more sets of the apparatus described above are combined to deliver to a common conveyer, and the shunt-regulators 20 are adjustably coupled together so that the ratio of the quantities delivered by the different sets of apparatus may be varied.
