Abstract
436,393. Free - wheel clutches. HEALEY, F. J., Britannia Works, Bassein Park Road, Shepherd's Bush, London. April 10, 1934, No. 10825. [Class 80 (ii)] A freewheel clutch comprises series of rollers 20 of graduated diameters located in pockets 26 in a member 23 secured to a driving shaft 1, the rollers bearing between the eccentric bottom of the pockets and liners 28 which are capable of limited circumferential movement in the pockets and which contact with a driven drum 3. Thus, during clockwise drive, as viewed in Fig. 1, the liners 28 lag behind the member 23 and the rollers are displaced, against the action of springs 27, towards the shallow ends of the pockets, thereby wedging the liners 28 against the drum 3. Trunnions 20a on the rollers engage eccentric grooves 25 in end plates 21, 22 which are interconnected by studs 24 passing through clearance holes in the member 23, the plate 22 having a sleeve portion 22a carrying roller pins 32 engaging inclined grooves 35 in a control sleeve 34 splined on the shaft 1. Thus by moving the sleeve 34 the rollers may be positively moved into the shallow ends of the pockets to increase the clutching action.
