Abstract

436,337. Cleaning ships' hulls. FULLER, S. R., H.M.S. Cardiff, H.M. Dockyard, Chatham. Dec. 18, 1934, No. 36218. [Class 113 (i)] Relates to arrangements for cleaning ships' hulls when the craft is under way comprising a plate A one side of which is provided with a brush C or other scouring device whilst the other side carries a vane J working about a pivot pin K at right angles to the plate. The motion of the water flowing past the vane causes the brush to travel downwards whilst pressing the brush against the plating. At the extremity of its downward travel, the vane is reversed by a trip line to bring it to the surface. According to the invention the leading part of the plate A is substantially flat the trailing part rising in an easy curve. The brush is provided with skids D to facilitate the passage of the device over the strakes.
