Abstract

434,987. Pencil holders. BINA, F. C., and BARREY, F. F., 231, Liverpool Road, Islington, London. June 25, 1934, No. 18697. Addition to 412,376. [Class 146 (iii)] In a propeller pencil as described in the parent Specification, the longitudinally slotted tube, through which the bent end of the lead carrier rod extends, is prevented from rotation in the barrel by a square or other suitably shaped member fixed on the tube and engaging sides, projections, or recesses formed in the barrel. The pencil barrel f contains the propelling sleeve s which is operated from the head h<4> and is attached to the propelling screw a by a projection a<1> thereon which engages in a recess in the sleeve and is prevented from disengagement by a short sleeve d. The lead carrier b projects into the screw a through the slotted tube k which is provided with a square member r held to the tube k by forming the aperture in the member r with a flat side to conform with the cross-section of the tube or with a projection which engages in the slot therein. The barrel is formed square about the member r to hold it against rotation and it is also held against longitudinal movement by a washer k<3> and projections k<2> on the tube. The sleeve s is held against longitudinal movement by a gland h which screws into the barrel and is provided with resilient projections h<1> formed by cuts in the wall of the gland which engage in a groove s<1> in the tube. The gland also secures the pocket clip e in position.
