Abstract
434,728. Vehicle bodies. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Tatra Works, Ltd. Motor Car & Railway Carriage & Wagon Builders ; 200, Kartouzska, Smichov, Prague) March 8, 1934, No. 7338. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i)] In vehicle bodies of streamline form provided with a constriction of the body in the region of the windscreen openings closable by slidable windows, roof panels, &c. are arranged in the air-flow detachment zones which occur behind the constriction and so obviate appreciable increase in air resistance of the body and in the formation of eddies. In the known enclosed form of stream-line body as indicated by the boundary line 2 and flat underpart 3 a constriction represented by the curvatures 4, 4<a> is provided as shown enabling the front screen 7 to be positioned in the normal form. The form of the vehicle in the horizontal sections, A, B, C, D, &c. is streamlined. It is stated that in the zone bounded by the lines I K, L M, there is little relative movement between the body and the surrounding air and that therefore window and roof openings 5, 6 do not produce disturbance within the car A screen 8 may be provided to deflect the air displaced by the front constriction.
