Abstract

434,394. Automatic-feed weighers. GIBSON, A. B., 20, Sykes Avenue, Weston, Ontario, Canada. Feb. 4, 1935, No. 3565. [Class 143] In an automatic weighing-machine the material is fed to the weigh bucket through a throat member containing a rotating valve movable longitudinally to regulate the flow, and means are provided for automatically controlling the longitudinal position of the valve in relation to the throat during the weighing operation. Assuming the desired charge has entered the weigh bucket 7, the weighbeam 8 rocks and closes an electric contact 53 causing an electromagnet 57 to liberate a spring-pressed closure member 42 and cut off the feed. The closing movement completes a circuit through an electromagnet 58 thereby coupling up a clutch to impart a single revolution to a cam shaft, the cams on which actuate (1) a lever 50 to open and close the discharge gates 21 of the weigh bucket ; (2) a lever 27, rod 29 and lever 33 to raise a constantly rotating shaft 4 to its highest position with its agitator valve 5 clear of the feed throat 2 ; (3) a lever 54 to lock the weighbeam temporarily by means of a clamping screw 55 during the subsequent dumping of material into the weigh bucket; and (4) a lever 44 to open the closure member 42 and re-set it on its catch. On the opening of the closure member the material accumulated in a measuring chamber 3 is dumped into the weigh bucket, the weight being then made up by a constantly decreasing stream through the throat 2 as the rotating and descending agitator valve 5 restricts the flow to a minimum. On completion of the charge the closure member 42 cuts off the feed as described above. The volume of the measuring chamber 3 may be regulated by raising or lowering the superposed conduit 1.
