Abstract

211,535. Simon, W. G., and Simon, F. R. Oct. 23, 1922. Automatic-feed weighers are provided with extracting means controlled by or through the weigh-beam, such means being adapted to extract a portion of the material being weighed when the weigh-beam has descended owing to an overweight. The extracting means may comprise a suction pump, fan, screw or other device actuated by any desired power. As shown, a sack 3 carried by a weigh-beam 8 is adapted to be filled from a hopper 7 until the weigh-beam descends when the supply is cut off in known manner. As the weigh-beam descends it closes a switch 10 controlling an electric motor 5, thus causing a pump 4 connected to the motor to extract material from the sack through a pipe 1 until the weigh-beam is in equilibrium when the switch is opened and the suction ceases. The material extracted from the sack is returned to the hopper 7 through a pipe 6. In a modification, the motor 5 runs continuously and the weigh-beam operates a valve 11 in the suction pipe 1.
