[Class 80 (ii)] A clutch-plate is cushioned by precompressed coil-springs 9, arranged in openings 12 in the hub 1 and 13 in the friction-disc 4, either set of openings being unequally spaced so that groups of springs, e.g. 9, 9a, oppose each other in maintaining initial equilibrium. As shown, there is a relative circumferential stagger between the pair of hub-openings 12 and their corresponding disc-openings 13, which stagger is in the opposite direction from that of the other pair 12<a>. The resulting deflection curve has two stages with a pause between them. The springs are retained at each side by circular wires 10 clamped at 11. The disc-member 4 has a cover-plate on the other side of the hub, secured to it by rivets 6, which pass through arcuate slots in the hub to limit the relative movement.
