Abstract
434,179. Thrust bearings; lubricating. WATSON, F., Aldwych House, Aldwych, London.-(Aktiebolaget Nomy ; Ulvsunda, Sweden) Feb. 23, 1934, No. 4647 /35. Divided out of 434,125 under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 29, 1934. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii)] An axial-thrust bearing ring 82 is supported by a cardan ring 18 so that axial thrust in both directions is uniformly distributed to bearing rings 85 fixed in the casing 2. One of each pair of bearing faces is of undulating shape as shown in Fig. 4. A clamping sleeve 72 locked to the shaft 9 by a pin 71 carries rings 73, 74, each having a pair of recesses 75, 76, receiving diametrically opposed projections 78, 79, on the ring 18. Displaced 90‹ from the projections 78, 79, the ring 18 has a pair of projections 80 extending into an annular recess 81 in the bearing ring 82. The latter has a pair of cut-away parts 83, Fig. 3. To assemble the ring 18, two parts 84 of a locking ring are inserted into the recess 81, the projections 80 are then inserted through the openings 83 and the ring 18 is turned through 90‹. The ring 18 has a central ridge bearing against the clamping sleeve 72. The bearing rings may be made in two parts. In Fig. 6, the bearing ring 82 of Fig. 1 is shown in two parts 82<1> which are connected together by a ring 94 forced or shrunk into part circular grooves 95, 96 in the two parts. For lubricating the bearing, the inner diameter of the locking ring sections 84 is greater than the bore of the ring 82 so as to form a rotating oil reservoir. The sections 84 have pockets 89 which communicate by channels 90 with radial recesses 88 in the bearing faces. To remove air from the bearing faces upon starting up, the upper part of each bearing ring 85 has a channel 87 extending from the inner edge 99 to an annular space 98 outside the bearing ring 82. Oil flows into the pockets 89 by gravity from the oil well in the bearing housing. To increase the oil flow, the rings 85 may have grooves 92 into which oil is thrown by the bevelled edges 93 of the ring 82. Specification 434,178 is referred to.
