[Class 44] A snap fastening for bracelets, necklaces, belts, &c. has two fastening members functioning successively, and arranged so that the first release action only allows incomplete separation, a second release operation being necessary to allow complete separation. The device shown comprises a female member having slotted tubular guides a<1>, a<2> to receive the edges of the male member, connected at one end by a plate c and at the other by an abutment plate d having a stepped slot d<12>. A spring f secured to plate c has a thumb-piece f<2>, a downturned end f adapted to pass through a slot g to the interior of guide a<1>, and a terminal guide and stop lug f<3> sliding in the slot in plate d. Guide a<2> houses a coiled spring e. The male member is in the form of a plate b shouldered at b<5> and tapered at b<3> to provide a spring tongue i of reduced width, bent back and provided with a member j<1> ending in a thumb-piece j<2>. Member b carries an abutment plate k near which its upper edge has a notch b<4>. On entering the male member in slot d<12>, edge b<3> raises catch f and shoulder b<5> puts spring e in compression, the edges of plate b being guided in the slots of tubes a<1>, a<2>. Before the movement is completed, tongue i springs out behind plate d, and on completion of the movement catch f<1> engages notch b<4>. Release requires operation of thumb-piece f<2> and catch f allowing partial separation, followed by operation of thumb-piece p and catch i.
