OF ATTLEBOIRO, MASSACHUSETTS V BRACELET CLASP Application filed April 11,
This invention relates to bracelet clasps and the primary object thereof is to provide a clasp structure wherein the parts are secured in position without the use of solder or screws or similar fastenings.
More particularly the invention relates to clasps which are, used in connection with bracelets of the extensible type so as to enable the bracelet, upon extension, to be placed over the hand of the wearer.
The invention further aims to provide a bracelet clasp which is of simple construction and which can be easily and quickly as sembled.
The invention has further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of a bracelet showing the parts in connected position;
Figure 2 is a top edge plan view of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an inside elevation of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is an elevation of the parts in ex tended position;
Figure 5 is a similar view of the reverse side;
Figure 6 is a section on line 66 of Figure 1; and
Figure 7 is a section on line 77 of Figure 5.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a pair of members 1 and 2 which are curved to conform to the wrist are em ployed, and of which 1 is a front member, and the rear member is 2. One end 8 of the bracelet is secured at 4 to the rear member 2 while the other end 5 of the bracelet is secured at 6 to the front member 1. The members 1 and 2 are pivotallyor hingedly connected by a pin 7 and as shown in Figure 2 are adapted to overlie one another. As shown particularly in Figure 7 the front member 1 has its side edges off-set as indicated at 8 to form right angular walls 9 which latter are slotted at 10 and also at 11. A substantially U-shaped catch member 12 which is formed of an integral stamping 0 and of resilient or spring metal is employed,
L-shape sothat when the same snaps pass the .formed with side flanges 18 between which 1931. Serial no. 529,372;
the closed end of which catch is formed with outwardly projecting lugs 13 that are received in the slots 11, whereby the base end of the catch is secured in position. Outwardly projectingfin'ger engaging lugs or parts 14 are provided near the open end of the catch and extend freely through the slots 10 where by upon engaging the fingers with each of the finger parts 14' the free ends of the catch can be moved toward one another as is obvious from inspection of Figure 5.
As shown particularly in Figures 4; and 5 of the drawings the rear member 2 is formed with a pair of spaced opposed struck out M keepers 15 which latter are receivable in cut outs 16 provided therefor in the member 1. The free end portions of the catch further has U-shape cut-outs 17 which receive the keepers v15, the latter being of substantially free end of the catch the parts will be held in latched position.
' Referring to Figure 5 of the drawings, it will be noted that the back member 2 is the central portion of the back of the member 1 is received when the parts are in folded position and same further has off set portions 19 to receive the finger engagingparts 14: of the catch when the parts occupy the folded position shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. r
In'assembly the finger engaging parts are projected through the slots 10. The closed endof the U-catch is then bent or curved longitudinally so as to bring the end lugs 13 closer together whereupon the ends are aligned with the slots 11 and the end of the catch then rebent to its originalposition which causes the lugs 13vto project through the slots 11. v j
The connecting member 6 of the end 5-of the bracelet as shown in Figure 5 of the drawings overlies the free ends of the U-catch and serves to house and protect same.
From the foregoing and as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings it will be seen that when the parts are in folded position same are compactly related and occupy a minimum of space thereby but slightlyincreasing the For the purpose of preventing lateral movements of the end of the bracelet band which overlies or seats upon the front memher 1, a stop lug or rib 20 is struck out from the back member 2 and projects through the open center of the adjacent links of the bracelet band as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
It will further be observed from Figure 2 that the members 1 and 2 are nested and hence occupy a minimum of space and that the end 5 of the bracelet is directly engaged with the outer face of the member 1 and seats thereon, and consequently a minimum of thickness is afforded. 1
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a bracelet, a front and a rear member hinged together at one end, the front member having off-set sides forming shoulders which latter are spaced and formed with spaced and opposed pairs of slots, a U-catch having side lugs at its base which extend through one pair of opposed slots and further having outwardly extending finger engaging parts adj acent'the free ends of the legs of the catch which project through the other pair of slots, the rear member having a pair of struck out L-shaped keepers, and the outer side edges of the catch having U-cut-outs adjacent the free end of thecatch to receiv the keepers. a
2. In a bracelet, a frontanda rear member hinged together at one end, the front member having off-set sides forming shoulders which latter are spaced and formed with spaced and opposed pairs of slots, a U-catch having side lugs at its base which extend through one pair of opposed slots and further having outwardly extending finger engaging parts adjacent the free ends of the legs of the catch which project through the other pair of slots, the rear member having a pair of keepers engageable with the sides of the catch at the free ends of the latter.
3. In a bracelet, a pairof members hinged together at one end, oneof the members having two pairs of opposed slotted parts, a U-shaped catch having a pair of lugs adjacent its base which project through the slots of one of the pairs of slotted parts, and further having a pair of fingers engaging parts on its legs which freelypro-ject through the slots of the other pair of slotted parts, and L-shapedkeepers carried by the other member, said catch having U-cutouts in the outer catch having a pair of lugs adjacent its base which project through the slots of one of the pairs of slotted parts, and further having a pair of finger engaging parts which freely project through the slots of the other pair of slotted ,parts, and keepers carried by the other member to engage the catch.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
LOUIS J. VETTER.
